About

Ok, the joy of writing my About page... So I'm Andi Cockbill and I decided to build my own website to showcase everything I love about video games, and secondly, to not forget everything I learnt whilst studying Computer Science at Loughborough University. I'm currently an email developer and marketing automation (MA) specialist at CleverTouch Marketing, with this being my passionate project on the side.

I've never thought of myself as a writer, but after continuously reading gaming content from IGN and Kotaku, and listening to their weekly podcasts, I've always wondered how hard can it be? One episode of IGN's Podcast Unlocked particularly inspired me to write my first article on triple-A games lacking content back in April 2015. I was pleasantly surprised with it, more importantly enjoyed writing it, and since then it's snowballed into another hobby of mine. Combining this with my hundreds of gaming videos on YouTube, I knew I had some good content to start my own site, hence Andic.uk was created.

The website is based on the La Casa template from pixelhint.com. I didn't want to re-invent the wheel when there are some amazing free templates out there.

The Videos section is entirely driven by the YouTube Data API. All text, images and video links you see are generated from my own YouTube channel. I used a similar YouTube API connection in my final year project at university.

The Gallery section is a collection of personal photos and in-game screenshots I've captured. The image viewer is powered by the JavaScript library PhotoSwipe.

The Twitter section is still to be fully developed. The ultimate goal is to show interesting stats and tweets from a week ago, a year ago, etc.
